Religious Education

Intent

“Whether one believes in a religion or not, and whether one believes in rebirth or not, there isn't anyone who doesn't appreciate kindness and compassion”

Dalai Lama

At Great Bradfords Junior School, we believe Religious Education is an opportunity for children to learn about acceptance of others and how to live alongside people from all walks of life.

We want them to know how Religious Education promotes discernment and enables pupils to combat prejudice, preparing them for adult life, employment and life-long learning. We believe that we can learn valuable lessons through understanding and appreciating other cultures and beliefs and that the teachings of religions may allow children to view their own lives through different lenses. Children are encouraged to not only consider the teachings and practises that form religions, but also to explore their own spirituality. At Great Bradfords, RE offers a chance for children to examine their own beliefs and values.

Through teaching the SAT RE Scheme for R.E., we allow pupils to become more resilient, accepting, mindful and inquisitive learners. At Great Bradfords Junior School, we ensure that the learning environment encourages children to be open-minded and show respect towards all beliefs and that any barriers, misunderstandings and prejudices are broken down while critical awareness is retained. We have links with different religious groups within our local community and often host interactive assemblies with the local vicar.

Parents/carers have the right to withdraw their child from part or all of the RE curriculum.
