What is so cool about the Arctic?
Published 11/10/23On Wednesday 11th October, 6C took part in a multi-schools event run by Wicked Weather Watch. The day was both interesting and informative and provided the children with the opportunity to work on a variety of skills and objectives. The day focused on the Island of Svalbard, Norway, which is where our Guided Reading book 'The Last Bear' is set. In the morning, the children discovered what the Arctic region is like, analysed some data about the weather in Svalbard and were set a challenge to build an igloo out of sugar cubes. In the afternoon, the children heard from a real-life explorer, who had visited Svalbard, and thought about how they could reduce their carbon footprints.

Year 6 Greenpeace visit
Published 04/10/23On Wednesday 4th October, Year 6 received a visit from a Greenpeace speaker. He spoke to the children about the climate crisis, main consequences and what the future holds. He was very impressed with the knowledge that the children already had and challenged them to develop their understanding further.

Year 4 visit to The Town Centre and Library
Published 10/07/23On Friday 7th July, Year 4 walked into town to view their art installation and hand out leaflets to raise awareness to the local community of the impact that wasting food can have on the environment. The children showed great confidence when speaking to the public and demonstrated enthusiasm when talking about their learning. The children look forward to seeing whether art can have an impact.

Yr 6 Fairtrade Project
Published 13/03/23As the end outcome to their Fairtrade project, the Year 6 children had to plan, resource and deliver a lesson on Fairtrade to a younger year group. Despite quite a few nerves and a few wobbly starts, the children did amazingly well and came up with a range of engaging and informative activities for their younger peers. These lessons gave the Year 6 pupils a chance to show off their impressive knowledge and raise awareness of Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight.

Yr 4 Visit to Roman Colchester
Published 13/03/23Year 4 continued to be historians as we moved on to the Romans in Spring 2. To start this project, Year 4 followed the Roman trail in Colchester and discovered lots of historical remains as well as many facts to help them with their project.

Year 4 Museum Project
Published 13/03/23n the Spring term, Year 4 became historians and studied the Shang Dynasty. The children learnt how to create their museums, following a talk from the Braintree Museum, and show-cased their work to the Year 3 pupils.
